Meet Master Wood Carver – Ian Agrell

VIDEO: Master Carver, Ian Agrell, discusses the philosophy behind Agrell Architectural Carving.

From an early age, Ian was drawn to the unique artistic challenge of working in three dimensions. Rather than finger paint, Ian chose modelling clay. This fascination with three dimensional art led naturally to his study of woodcarving, and in 1981, the Master Carvers Association (MCA) bestowed upon Ian the title of Master Wood Carver. Founded in the late 19th century, the MCA is the oldest and most prestigious association of wood and stone carvers in the United Kingdom.

The title of Master Wood Carver is presented to both individual carvers and those who employ multiple apprentices and crafts people who demonstrate exceptional quality of work, professional execution and timely delivery. Standards are extraordinarily high, and presently the association has 40 members.

As Master Carver and Principal at Agrell Architectural Carving, Ian Agrell directs all projects, from design to shop drawings to a finished project. He brings an unwavering energy, passion and innate design sensibility to each and every undertaking. Together with the company's team of 15 highly trained wood carvers, Ian has created a world-renowned workshop and reputation for unequalled craftsmanship.
