On the day in history: 28th June 1919: Treaty of Versailles. French woodcarving and interior decoration
On this day in history the 28th June 1919 the Treaty of Versaille was signed - one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. Given the anniversary and the current news I decided to write a bit about French interior decoration and discuss (just some of) the projects we have been involved with over these last few years.
I shall start with a fine example of a French panel copy from Versaille showing acanthus, flowers and fruit. All our carving in hand carved with immaculate care and detail. We do not use machines.
These images show the process starting with the high-end design, then the laying and marking out.
Then several hours of hand carving in progress.
The result being a beautiful hand carved french panel.
We have hand carved French paneled rooms, over-mantels and interior decoration for many clients including being commissioned by the team at TMJ Interiors for the carving for the 50ft grand ballroom at Dudley House / 100 Park Lane, beautifully designed by Alberto Pinto
Here is an original photo
and a couple of photos of the many paneled doors before they were finished. We worked closely with the joinery company to hand carved each element which was then applied or inserted into the door.
Along with designer Adam Thorpe we have produced our own classical designs of a French paneled room to inspire our clientele. Here they are able to visualise French hand carving within their own homes with examples to show how carving can be mixed and matched. Remember it is all about the importance of a good design and we are very happy to work with our clients to discuss design and budget requirements. For further elevations click here
